AI Image Prompt Statistics (2026)

Every first-party number on this page is computed directly from the 210 prompts in the Promptkoi library — each one tested on the model it targets, with its settings recorded in the entry. Nothing here is estimated or hand-picked: the figures regenerate from the corpus on every site build, and the full underlying data is downloadable as an open JSON dataset. Headline numbers

• Of the 210 prompts we tested, 100% of Stable Diffusion (SDXL) prompts required a negative prompt to reach publishable quality — the clearest evidence that negatives are not optional on SDXL.
• The median tested prompt is 57 words long — far from the one-line prompts most beginners start with, and far from keyword walls.
• 81% of our Midjourney prompts carry a --no exclusion chain, and the median Midjourney --stylize value across the corpus is 200.
• 100% of tested Flux prompts run at guidance 3.5 (median steps: 28) — the strongest single-setting consensus in the corpus.
• Square 1:1 remains the workhorse frame: 34% of prompts that declare an aspect ratio use 1:1.

Settings in practice

The corpus encodes what settings actually get used when every prompt must earn a publishable image. On SDXL, the median recipe is 30 steps at CFG 6.5 with DPM++ 2M Karras, and a negative prompt in 100% of entries. On Flux, guidance 3.5 is near-universal (100%). Midjourney splits by job: 23 of 74 stylize-declared prompts stay at ≤100 (logos, flat design, icons — where geometry must hold), while only 8 go above 250 (painterly scenes that welcome artistic liberty).

The most-quoted industry figure — that AI models had generated over 15 billion images — comes from Everypixel Journal and is frozen at August 2023; treat any page citing it as current with suspicion. Our corpus statistics don't estimate the industry's volume; they measure something no aggregate can: what settings, lengths, and ratios actually survive testing when every prompt must produce a publishable image on the model it targets. Where we cite external numbers anywhere on this site, they carry their source and date inline, and we date our own corpus at the top of this page.
